Cessna Aircraft Company is a general aviation aircraft manufacturer based in Wichita, Kansas. It is a subsidiary of Textron,a conglomeratein the US. Cessna is lauded for theCessna 172, the most produced planeinhistory.

Cessna was founded as the Cessna-Roos Aircraft Company in 1927 by the partnership of Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos. Clyde was a Farmer in Kansas but became the first person to have flown between the Mississippi River and the Rocky mountains, and by using an aircraft he built on his own at that. On the other hand,Victor was a known aviation entrepreneur. He resignedjust one month after forming the partnership, and the Kansas Secretary of State approved the dropping of Roos from the company name soon thereafter.

Cessna Aircraft fell victim to the Great Depression but after Clyde's nephews Dwane and Dwight Wallace reopened Cessna in 1934,it began to become a globalsuccess.

Cessna Aircraft was acquired by General Dynamics Corporation in 1985. General Dynamics sold Cessna to Textron.
Textron combined Cessna and Oeechcraft to form what is now Textron Aviation.
