Piper Aircraft Appoints New Vice President

Piper Aircraft hires industry veteran as new VP of International and Direct Sales

Industry veteran, Drew McEwen, has been appointed as Piper Aircraft’s new Vice President of International and Direct Sales. In this new position he will lead the company’s global and factory direct sales efforts for the fleet, trainer, and special mission aircraft sales. Other areas of interest for McEwen will include growing Piper Aircraft’s trainer business and improving the international distribution network.

Piper Aircraft is an aviation manufacturer with a rich history. In 1937 Mr. Piper introduced the first Piper Cub, an American lightweight aircraft with a simple design and good short field performance. This was his first step towards a dream of enabling everyone to have the freedom of flight. 80 years later, Piper Aircraft is the only general aviation manufacturer to feature a complete line of aircraft from dependable trainers to top of the line turboprops.

A company that has manufactured over 130,000 different types of aircrafts, needs experienced leadership to guide them to even greater success. Piper found that extensive experience and leadership within Drew McEwen. As a pilot, McEwen has logged over 2,000 flight hours with twin and instrument ratings.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Arizona State University and continuing to study sales and marketing strategy at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, McEwen has acquired more than 30 years of great leadership experience in the aviation industry. He has held positions in many different departments related to aviation sales/marketing and customer support.

McEwen’s journey with Piper Aircraft began in 2010 when he came on board as Director of Sales. Just one year later he was promoted to Piper’s executive team as Head of Global Sales and Business Development. Following that great experience McEwen found himself further promoted to the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 2013. McEwen’s new change to Vice President of International and Direct Sales is expected to be a smooth transition.

“Drew’s sales experience and knowledge of the market are invaluable to Piper Aircraft. He has held a wide range of leadership positions with multiple OEMs across a wide spectrum of sales disciplines including whole aircraft, fractional ownership, parts and service sales and customer support. His background is ideal for Piper’s growth initiatives and will help us continue to gain market share across our entire product line,” said Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, Ron Gunnarson.

One of the most recent products that McEwen will be focusing on is the new addition to the esteemed M-class line, the M600. Piper announced this single-engine, 600 horsepower, cabin class turboprop in Vero Beach Florida in 2015. This plane features a new, sophisticated wing design and the most advanced Garmin technology on the market. In fact, it is the first single-engine turboprop to introduce a touchscreen controlled flight deck, G3000 avionics. With all these advancements, the M600 is listed at a competitive price of $2.82 million.
